Here is a quick and easy recipe to making butter. It literally takes 5 minutes or less to make and uses one, simple ingredient.
Homemade Butter Recipe
Ingredients
- Heavy whipping cream (Try to find one whose only ingredient is cream)
Kitchen Tools Needed
- Mixing bowl
- Wooden spoon
- Mixer
Directions
1. Pour one cup heavy whipping cream into a bowl. (You can use any amount desired.)
2. Mix on medium speed.
3. Keep blending.
4. You are doing it right! Keep blending for a few more minutes and it will start to look like this.
5. The liquid emerging in the bowl is buttermilk. You can pour this into a container and store it for later use. Rinse the butter under ice cold water and press down on the butter to remove any extra moisture. Repeat this step a couple of times until the water is no longer cloudy. The more moisture you can remove, the longer the butter will last. Rinse under ice cold water a few times until the water is clear.
6. Whip for another minute or so. Add salt or other flavoring if desired. Ready to serve and enjoy!
Now you have learned how to make butter! It’s super easy and tastes delicious on a slice of fresh homemade bread. From here, you can have even more fun and play around with making different flavored butters like brown sugar pecan butter, cinnamon sugar butter and more.
What is a flavored butter that you have tried or would like to try making?
That looks awesome. Reminds me of Amish butter. Can it also be used in recipes that call for butter?
Yes, homemade butter can easily be used in recipes that call for butter (because it’s real butter!) but there is one caveat to that. Where I live, heavy cream is $4.79 for a carton. It takes one full carton of heavy cream to make the equivalent of a pound of butter. For $3.99, you can purchase organic butter, $1.99 for non-organic. So, in cases of baking, it’s not cost effective form me to use homemade butter in a recipe unless I was out of store bought butter.
We like using the homemade butter when making flavored butters like pecan brown sugar butter, cinnamon sugar butter, citrus herb, almond honey, etc.
